Care after being bitten by an animal – post-exposure prophylaxis:
In the event that an unvaccinated person has contact (bite or scratch wounds, saliva contact with open wounds on the skin or mucous membrane) with an animal suspected of having rabies, a post-exposure prophylaxis must immediately be carried out:
- Immediately rinse the bite wound (with water and soap) and disinfect it (with iodine/alcohol)
- Passive immunisation with rabies immunglobulin (20 IE/kg KG) on day 0
- Active immunisation with rabies vaccination on days 0, 3, 7, and 14
